Waipū Cove, is a 90min drive north of Auckland, at the Southern end of the beautiful and unspoiled Bream Bay. A beautiful long, sandy beach, with safe swimming, and well patrolled in summer.
Waipū Cove Beach has concrete paving from the surf life-saving club along to the boat ramp access. The surf life-saving club have have two beach wheelchairs available for hire for use on Labour Weekend and then again from November through to Easter. One child size, and one adult size. The beach wheelchairs can be booked through Camp Waipū Cove.
The Beach Wheelchairs are available to use between the hours of 11.30am – 3.30pm during summer patrolling days, however they need to be booked in advance. They will take bookings out of these hours subject to availability of volunteers so ring a head and check.
To access the Beach Wheelchairs, park in the public accessible car park near the surf life-saving club, wheelchair to the club, and then transfer to the beach wheels. Access to the beach is by the boat ramp via the concrete pathways. Lifeguards or club volunteers will meet you at the club (lower area), where you can sign the forms and be shown how to use the chairs.
Public changing rooms are accessible, as well as an accessible hot shower.
Beach Wheelchair size limits:
Yellow Sand Pipe (Child) up to 80kg, under 5ft
Blue Sand Cruiser (Adult) up to 120kg, over 5ft
The Beach Wheelchairs have anti-tip/parking brake.
Use of two attendants is recommended when the water depth is greater than 15cm.
