The Margaret Mahy Playground is both all ages and all abilities. Featuring four-metre-wide slide, water cannons and sprinklers, climbing tower with spiral slide, tunnels, swings and wonderful landscaping, the Margaret Mahy Playground is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
The playground is split into 4 areas representing the different geography of Canterbury. These areas are the peninsula, forest, plains and wetlands with different playground equipment in each. There is also a jetty beside the river and plenty of places to rest or eat along the bank of the Avon River.
Accessibility
Accessibility varies in the park. The wetlands section is accessible but the swings and roundabout is not. The sandpit is also an option if the user is able to easily get in and out of their chair. There is plenty of accessible areas along the river bank for parents who want to watch their children play.
Please contact Margaret Mahy Playground representatives directly to ensure the playground can accommodate your specific needs.
