This beautiful and extensive park and bird sanctuary is nestled on the edge of the inner Tauranga harbour. With water-lilly ponds, mature trees from around the world, flower gardens and natural wetlands, the Bird Gardens are a delight all year round. Featuring a range of native and colourful birds, visitors can delight in the sounds of Kawaupaka (Little Shags), Kotuku-ngutupapa (Royal Spoonbill), Kereru (Wood Pigeon), Kakariki (New Zeland Parakeet) and Tuis. With approximately 1.5km of paths, the gardens are a great day out and popular with parents looking for things to do with kids in Tauranga.

Pathways in the garden are 1.4 metres wide and tar sealed on slopes and damp areas, making the tracks wheelchair accessible.
